Fresh from his acclaimed performances with Yola, William Prince has shared his new music video for ‘The Spark’, which has premiered today via American Songwriter. It’s the first single from his forthcoming album Reliever out February 7th via Glassnote. The song was recently featured on Rolling Stone’s recent roundup of “10 Best Country Songs To Hear Now.”
The video finds Prince performing in a cabin near a fire, his reflection juxtaposed with images of himself, hazy memories, and fiery sparks all around him, as he sings of the ashes of what once was and what can be. The yearning video matches the lush, string-laden music, and it is a moment of light on an album exploring the dark, awkward, and unspoken parts of life.
“The Spark details hope in finding someone who lights you up amidst the darkness you may feel. True love can burn so bright when it finds its spark,” says Prince. “A spark can save you amidst the cold and bring salvation from its warmth.”
Reliever, produced by Dave Cobb and Scott Nolan, is a record that showcases Prince as a powerful vocalist and inspirational writer with musical influences ranging from his musician and preacher father to Kris Kristofferson and Charley Pride.
Last year, NPR Music dubbed Prince a “Best of AmericanaFest 2018.” He has toured with Neil Young and most recently performed across the UK and Ireland supporting Yola. Following his 2018 Stagecoach performance, the LA Times wrote that Prince delivered “one of the most captivating performances of the weekend.” Prince received the Juno Award for Best Contemporary Roots album for his previous LP, Earthly Days.
