Foy Vance has unveiled a stunning acoustic performance video of ‘I Won’t Let You Fall’, recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. The track is taken from Vance’s new album ‘To Memphis’, which will be released on September 6 on Ed Sheeran’s label Gingerbread Man Records. Pre-order ‘To Memphis’ to receive the album version of ‘I Won’t Let You Fall’ plus the tracks ‘Only The Artist’ and ‘The Strong Hand’.
Vance has also been announced as featured vocalist on the new single by US EDM superstar ILLENIUM. The single, ‘Blood’, drops tomorrow on Astralwerks and is taken from ILLENIUM’s new album ‘Ascend’, which follows on August 16.
Recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Studio, ‘To Memphis’ was produced by Vance with Matt Ross-Sprang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine) and is the companion album to ‘From Muscle Shoals’, which was released in June. The two very special albums pay homage to the deeply rooted Americana and Soul traditions that have influenced Vance’s approach to songwriting. The catalyst for the project was Vance’s discovery of old demos he had labelled ‘Soul’ and ‘Americana’ whilst he was searching for inspiration for the follow-up to 2016’s ‘The Wild Swan’.
“I have always been such a massive fan of American Folk Music in all its many forms. There is a certain candidness to it,” says Vance. “The ‘Americana’ songs proved intriguing as some where very old and written somewhat wryly, but a good few were songs written in the last six months that felt like they belonged to these older ones in some way.”
Vance will follow the releases with an extensive headline North American and UK/Eire tour throughout October and November. Tickets on sale now from foyvance.com
There will be new studio album from Vance in 2020, a more traditional follow-up to ‘The Wild Swan’, which contained the Radio 2 playlisted singles ‘Coco’, ‘Upbeat Feelgood’, and ‘Noam Chomsky Is A Soft Revolution’. Vance’s previous album, ‘Joy Of Nothing’, won the inaugural Northern Ireland Music Prize for best album’ in 2013.
