Award-winning Northern Irish singer-songwriter Foy Vance has today released his acclaimed new album ‘From Muscle Shoals’ on Ed Sheeran’s label Gingerbread Man Records.
Recorded at the legendary FAME Studios, ‘From Muscle Shoals’ was co-produced by Vance with Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes, John Paul White, Nicole Atkins) and features Spooner Oldham (keys) and David Hood (bass), two of the original ‘Swampers’ Muscle Shoals house band that played on so many iconic hits of the 60s & 70s. Watch a short, two-part documentary of Vance in conversation with the iconic musicians: Part I here, Part II here.
Says Vance of the release: “I’m very happy to have my new record “From Muscle Shoals” out in the world today. Recording this music live at FAME Studios with some of the most legendary players and singers in the world was a special time. I hope you all enjoy.”
The new album includes the tracks ‘Pain Never Hurt Me Like Love’, an acoustic version of which (recorded live in FAME Studios) was premiered by Daily Telegraph, and ‘You Get To Me’, whose accompanying acoustic video was premiered by Clash.
‘From Muscle Shoals’ is the first of two companion albums, and will be followed in September by a second long-player, ‘To Memphis’, which was recorded at Sam Phillips Recordings Studios in Memphis. The two albums pay homage to the deeply rooted Soul and Americana traditions that have influenced Vance’s approach to songwriting.
Vance will follow the two album releases with an extensive headline North American and UK/Eire tour throughout October and November. Tickets on sale now from foyvance.com
There will be new studio album from Vance in 2020, a more traditional follow-up to ‘The Wild Swan’, which contained the Radio 2 playlisted singles ‘Coco’, ‘Upbeat Feelgood’, and ‘Noam Chomsky Is A Soft Revolution’. Vance’s previous album, ‘Joy Of Nothing’, won the inaugural Northern Ireland Music Prize for best album’ in 2013.
