Boomtown Announce Wild West District Line Up

Saddle up the horses and polish those spurs, Boomtown’s most musically varied district has announced it’s line-up for Chapter 9. The Wild West, home of bluegrass, folk, and world to bassline, is for the leg shaking do- si-do-ers,  and midnight party people alike! Previously announced Hampshire folk-punk star Frank Turner will be playing on renowned folk and world stage the Old Mines alongside spoken word, house-country fusion band Alabama 3, Newton Faulkner’s percussive songwriting, spine tingling Irish sensations Kíla and Congolese afro house outfit Mbongwana Star. The full line up of the stage sees 80 acts added over four knee slapping main stages and street venues.

One of the festivals most intricate sets, the district takes attendees back in time to when Boomtown’s immersive storyline first began; where cowboys and bounty hunters, showgirls and saloons populate bandit laden streets… it’s time to delve  beyond the stocks and peepholes and see what Wild West has in store for all in attendance:

Joining Frank Turner , Alabama 3, Newton Faulkner and Kíla on the  Old Mines is folk revivalist  Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band, cult political folk songwriter Beans On Toast and scrumpy and Western band The Wurzels. Nashville country three piece Rev Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Argentine tropical-punk band Kumbia Queers, raw blues guitar and heart pounding beatboxing duo Heymoonshaker, soulful, political and multiple folk award winning Chris Wood and gypsy-jazz Plymouth outfit Mad Dog McRea show the wide range of genres available, with The Furrow Collective, The Breath, La Inedita, 47 Soul, Lakuta, Sheelanagig, Showhawk Duo, Noble Jacks, Holy Moly & The Crackers also on the bill.

Blues to Bluegrass, Country to Cowpunk, the Rusty Spurs is sure to bring some of the rowdiest hillbilly stompers to Boomtown with the raw and energetic Jim Jones & The Righteous Mind, folk-punkers Ferocious Dog, indie-roots lot Rusty Shackle, Irish walters The Eskies, self named Hellgrassers (bluegrass/acoustic punk) Moonshine Wagon, all female Americana folk group Dana Immanuel & The Stolen Band and bootlegged hoedowners The Boot Hill All Stars are just some of the eclectic lot, along with The Black Hearted Riders, Mick O’Toole, Imprints, Surfin Birds and Dirty Diesel Outlaw Orchestra to name but a few!

Home to Moonshine laden meanderers, Crazy Calamities is the place for a good old  knees up; where genres are mixed up like the sweetest of cocktails. Whet your whistle with sounds from Afro Cluster, Sounds Of Harlowe, Captain Accident, Junior Bill, King Punch, The Tribe, Krupa, Primo Nelson, The Iguanas, Agbeko, Basement 83, Solomento, Special Brew, 6foot7 and Mighty John Street Ska Orchestra are just some of the acts on offer.

Steaming into our shanty town is the triumphant return of Wrong Side of the Tracks, a full sized steam train with nothing but good vibes to be found inside this 18th century train station. Late night shake-a-leggers should come with dancing shoes in hand for Dr Meaker, Titan Sound. Shosh (24 Hour Garage Girls) and Selekta Spinach. Shot Gun Willies, one of the longest standing Street Venues will be back in the West along with  Madame Electrifies General Store, Clik Clik, Porch Stage and the  Lawless Hall of Justice!

Wild West is just one of Boomtown’s many districts, other districts include Chinatown, Oldtown, Mayfair, Whistlers Green, DSTRKT 5 and Barrio Loco. Full district lineups will be  released every Wednesday at 1pm from 15th February.
