Album Review: Zervas Pepper- Endless Road Restless Nomad

Zervas & Pepper have been capturing the hearts and minds of people across the world since their humble formation in Cardiff back in 2007. Since they first joined forces they have had an ever-increasing fan base that spans far beyond the reaches of our humble country and they have graced the festival stages of Glastonbury and Green Man Festival.

Endless Road Restless Nomad is their phenomenal and aptly named latest album as it embodies the restless troubadour spirit of the duo that has seen them constantly touring, writing, touring, writing and so forth. Their indominable spirit is something that is wildly infectious and Endless Road Restless Nomad is a dancing, dazzling decadence that shines like a diamond. Their relentless upbeat nature makes them the perfect counteract for a moody, rainy afternoon as they usher the summer to you wherever you are. Although working as a pair, Zervas & Pepper steadily collaborate with a six-piece band and the result is that their earnest and heart-felt songs don’t merely have an acoustic accompaniment but a rich and heady collection of dextrous melodies that seem to pop and burst around your head. The music the duo have enveloped themselves with is absolutely stunning as it is simultaneously rousing and soothing.

Both Zervas and Pepper have astounding vocal stylings, soft and beguiling with Zervas hosting a perfectly balanced counterpart to Pepper’s delicate and honeyed vocals. What makes the pair so astounding is that they are completely in synch with their own sound. Over time, any artist will experiment with their music and this is how we get the wonderful sounds we hear today. But what’s refreshing is that even if the pair are experimenting with their sound it’s completely inaudible. They are such a polished and finely tuned act that no matter what melodies they set their hands to, it always sounds as if it was always written just like that, just for them. The warmth and passion the pair put in to their work is wildly contagious and leaves every track feeling perfectly finished and also gives it an intimate feeling as though they were recorded just for you.

Endless Road Restless Nomad is a charming and fantastical album that perfectly encompasses the indominable spirit that the duo have and their zest for bringing their songs to the world. It gives you the impression that they will always be on the road, always looking for the next stage and this in itself is an incredibly comforting notion because if there is one thing that you take away from this is that you won’t want it to end.
