Album Review: Dylan Mondegreen – Dylan Mondegreen

Dylan Mondegreen is Norwegian recording artist Borge Sildnes first UK released album. Borges has a strong fan-base worldwide, creating indi-pop since the mid 2000s. Dylan Mondegreen is an album of tender emotional songs characterised by gentle vocal melodies and rich textures of woodwind, strings and percussion.

The album produced and mixed by Ian Catt, who has worked with Saint Etienne and The Field Mice on Sarah Records Label, is reminiscent of pop band Prefab Sprout, and others such as Jens Lekman and Sufjan Stevens. Male and female vocals take turns on songs that reflect everyday life, such as the track ‘Life As A Father’ and ‘The Heart is A Muscle’. Instrumental textures add intensity and flavour to the music, the track ‘It Takes Two’ features steel drums, ‘Keeper of Secrets’ uses glockenspiel and ‘Tears All Over Town’ features saxophone.

The overall result is an album of songs you can repeatedly play which increase with depth and interest on each listening.
